DESCRIPTION: Join ceramicist Kirsten Serrano for a workshop in surface design with a special focus on sgraffito techniques. Perfect for anyone curious about adding color, pattern, and texture to their pottery, this class will guide you through the process of bringing clay surfaces to life. Each student will receive two handmade pieces of greenware—a small trinket dish and a vase—and learn how to layer underglazes and slips, use paper resist, use sgraffito to reveal contrasting colors, and develop a strong sense of rhythm and balance in their designs. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have the skills and confidence to use multiple surface design techniques to create rich, dynamic surfaces that combine precision, pattern, and personal expression. All pieces will be fired and clear glazed by CAC.
SKILL LEVEL: Advanced Beginner + above / All levels are welcome
