WHEN: 1-day workshop / Saturday, July 18 from 10 AM-4 PM, with 1 hour break for lunch

AGES: Adults, 18+

DESCRIPTION: Spend the day discovering the endless possibilities of encaustic painting in this beginner-friendly workshop with artist Kenn Rudolph. Perfect for curious newcomers and experienced artists alike, this class offers a fun and exploratory introduction to painting with heated beeswax and resin to create luminous surfaces rich with color, depth, and texture.

Kenn will guide students through the fundamentals of encaustic, including material preparation, safe studio practices, and how to use heated tools with confidence. Through a series of playful exercises and small works, participants will experiment with layering translucent and opaque wax, fusing each layer with heat, carving and scraping into the surface to reveal hidden colors, and building depth through repetition and transparency.

Students will also have the opportunity to incorporate dry pigments and oil sticks to add color and mark-making to their pieces. No prior experience is necessary—just bring your curiosity and enjoy a day of creative exploration with this versatile and captivating medium.

SKILL LEVEL: All skill levels are welcome

LOCATION: Vinay and Suman Das Foundation 2d Studio, across the street at 116.

Individual Membership

CAC CANCELLATION POLICY: No refunds are permitted for tuitions paid for educational programs. Participants may receive a 50% tuition credit that can be used for a future educational program at CAC. No credits will be given the day class is to start or after the start of the educational program. Should CAC cancel any educational program, all participants will receive a full refund.
