WHEN: 5-day session, June 8-12, from 10-12:30 PM
AGES: Ages 9-12
INSTRUCTOR: Kristin McMurtrey
DESCRIPTION: Students will design and create a wide variety of handmade books, including zines, accordion (concertina) books, Japanese stab bindings, and more. Students will experiment with marbling and paste paper techniques to create bookbinding papers, discovering how color, pattern, texture, and form influence the stories, artwork, and ideas inside a book. Campers will use their imagination, focus on craftsmanship, make thoughtful design choices, and most importantly, have fun while exploring the art of books. By the end of the week, each camper will go home with a collection of handmade books and a deeper appreciation for books as art objects.
