Intro to Encaustic Art / May 13 - June 4

$170.00

WHEN: 4-class session / Thursday, May 13- May 27 from 6-8:30 PM and June 4 from 6-9 PM

AGES: Adults, 18+

DESCRIPTION: With guidance from artist Kenn Rudolph, students will be introduced to the captivating process of encaustic painting. This ancient technique uses heated beeswax mixed with resin to build luminous, layered surfaces full of depth and texture. Students will learn about proper material preparation, safe studio practices, and how to work confidently with heated tools. Throughout the workshop, participants will create a series of works while developing fundamental encaustic skills. They’ll practice layering translucent and opaque wax, fusing each layer with heat, carving and scraping back into the surface to reveal underlying colors, and building visual depth through repetition and transparency. Students will also experiment with adding dry pigments and oil sticks, embedding paper or imagery into the wax, exploring monotype techniques and more. Emphasis will be placed on surface variation, mark-making, composition, and discovering personal imagery within the fluid and textural qualities of wax.

SKILL LEVEL: Beginner + above / All skill levels welcome

LOCATION: Downstairs classroom

TUITION: $170 for non-members / $153 for current CAC members, enter code CACMEMBER at checkout to receive 10%-member discount

SUPPLIES: A $40 supply fee is due to the instructor at the beginning of the first class.
